Keep communication clear

Th

ink about how much information you are giving at once.

Long sentences, complicated instructions or several questions at the same time can make information difficult to process.

For example, instead of:

"After you've finished breakfast, go and get dressed because we're going into town, but we're going to stop at the pharmacy first and then get some lunch."

someone might find it easier if the information is broken into smaller steps and supported with pictures, symbols or a visual timetable.

Clear communication doesn't necessarily mean using as few words as possible. It means communicating in a way that is accessible to that particular person.
