Look for opportunities to increase control

Choice shouldn't only happen when staff remember to offer it.

Look at how everyday support is organised.

Who decides:

  • When the person gets up?
  • When they eat?
  • When they go out?
  • What happens at weekends?
  • How their money is spent?
  • Who enters their room?
  • What activities are available?
  • How their home is organised?

Sometimes increasing choice means changing the environment or the way the service operates.
